Evelyn Hart

born: 1956

Canadian. Evelyn Hart started dancing at the Dorothy Carter School of Dance in London, Ontario in 1970, before briefly attending the National Ballet School of Canada. Miss Hart entered the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School in 1973.

Miss Hart joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in 1976 and became a principal dancer three years later. She won bronze at the World Ballet Concours in Japan, 1980. First Canadian to win a Gold Medal, and the rarely awarded Certificate of Exceptional Artistic Achievement at the Varna International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgeria, 1980.

Miss Hart has toured North America, Europe, and Asia, and has performed as a guest artist with many of the world's leading ballet companies. A biography, Evelyn Hart: An Intimate Portrait, has been published and she was the subject of the film Moment of Light: the Dance of Evelyn Hart. She has just announced her retirement from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
